Her story

Hello! My name is Kacie Recla Shaffer. I am a 3rd generation Vale community member. I grew up on my family's farm here in Vale, attended Vale School District from Kindergarten to graduation, and eventually moved back as an adult. Now, my husband and I raise our children here, and we stay involved in various community events.

My artistic style is best described as Pop Art- I love flat, bright, bold areas of color. I enjoy creating artworks that are simple yet dynamic. My art style, for the most part, has remained the same throughout the years; however, there were times when "imposter syndrome" kicked in, and I tried to create artworks that were meant to impress others. I have found that being confident in my unique style, finding joy in the art-making process, and showing the world from my eyes is more important than impressing those around me. Art is subjective, so, at the end of the day, I've got to be proud on a deeply personal level of what I've accomplished and not worry about what others think!

This project is so much more than a mural- it is a movement. It's inspiring people to dream big, to stretch themselves to their limits, to think outside the box, to be bold, and to live life fully. It's taking pride in your roots and remembering where you came from while simultaneously looking forward to your future, growing wings, and learning to fly. I hope that this message is conveyed, visually, to those who view it. Additionally, I am grateful to collaborate not only with the Dream Big Organization but also with the other talented artists who will capture Vale in uniquely different ways that will resonate with others in ways I may not be able to. I hope that the diversity in our styles and subject matters will further celebrate the diversity within our community.
