Her story

My name is Hannah Mizuta, and I am 27 years old. I grew up in Vale, Oregon, and still live here today, surrounded by my family and community. I attended Oregon State University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences with a minor in Spanish. Later, I attended school in Meridian, Idaho, to receive my esthetician license. I now own my own business, Hannah Artistry and Aesthetics, located in Payette, Idaho.

Art has always been a big part of my life and is incorporated into everything I do. Even as my career evolved, my roots in Vale and my connection to art and community have remained constant.

My artistic style is rooted in realism, with a strong emphasis on storytelling and authenticity. I am drawn to subject matter that holds personal meaning, particularly scenes connected to agriculture, and family history. I place a high value on accurate details because those details honor the people and experiences that inspire my work.

Much of my inspiration comes from my family. My grandpa was both a farmer and an artist. After being released from a WWII internment camp, he moved to Vale and farmed for over sixty years. My dad worked alongside him and eventually took over the family farm. I grew up immersed in that world, setting siphon tubes, driving tractors, and learning firsthand about crop farming.

The farm scene inside the “V” reflects that history, from the onions and wheat to the 4020 John Deere tractor. The windmill symbolizes my family’s homestead in Ironside, Oregon, with six generations of history on my mother’s side. It all began with acreage acquired through the Homestead Act. While it is not located in Vale, it represents the shared experience of the families who settled, farmed, and built their lives in this area. Together, these elements honor the agricultural roots that define Vale and the generations who dreamed big and worked tirelessly to provide for their families.

I am honored to be part of this mural project. This is my first mural and the largest and most meaningful piece of art I have created. Being able to give back to my community in this way is incredibly special to me. Vale may be a small town, but it has the biggest hearts. We dream big here, and we support one another. I hope this mural reflects my love for Vale, my appreciation for its agricultural roots, and the people who continue to make it such a special place.
