His story

Eddie is currently a Community Organizer with the Oregon Food Bank, serving southeast Oregon. His work with the Food Bank focuses on addressing root causes of food insecurity and ensuring access to food resources in Malheur County.

I grew up between Oregon and California but identify with my indigenous Texas roots. My parents and grandparents were migrant workers from Texas. My parents made our home in Vale and Nyssa. Growing up I would see all the beautiful murals around town and dreamed of painting a mural in Vale. Being a part of the Dream Big Vale mural project is a testament that your dreams can come true if you work toward them long enough and never give up.

My art is characterized by its boldness and decisiveness. I use acrylics to paint on canvases and wooden boards. I enjoy capturing moments and people within the community, including community leaders and everyday individuals.

I use my art to create awareness for social justice issues and was selected as one of four artists to receive the 2024-26 Fields Artist Fellowship, a prestigious award that provides $150,000 over 2 years to cultivate social change in my community through my art.

I believe that everything good in my life has come from serving others.
